Thank You to Volunteers and Donors for the Sleep In Heavenly Peace Build A Bed Event at Lee Church on Sept. 28
Many thanks to everyone who contributed their time to the Build a Bed project on Saturday, September 28th at the Lee Church. It was a beautiful, sunny, fall day, and in just under 2 hours, volunteers built 22 beds. The beds will go to kids in our local community, kids who don’t have a bed of their own to sleep in.
We also want to thank the community for their generous donations. Together we raised just over $4,000! These funds will enable the Sleep in Heavenly Peace non-profit group to build 16 more beds to be distributed to needy families.
We plan to build more beds at Lee Church in 2025! Watch for next year’s Build a Bed date and once again, thank you on behalf of the Lee Church Community Outreach Team.
Welcome Pastor Cat Allard!
We'd like to introduce you to Pastor Cat! She has served two UCC churches as an ordained minister while she lived in Oregon; most recently as the Interim Pastor at Smyrna UCC in Canby. She also served on the Board of Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon (EMO), one of the largest ecumenical organizations in the country, as the Chair of the Theological Education and Dialogue Committee. EMO meets the immediate needs of communities in the greater Portland area through six direct service programs, while seeking long-term solutions through state-wide public policy and advocacy work. Their direct service programs support refugees and immigrants, food insecure people, low-income people living with HIV, unaccompanied youth experiencing homelessness, and survivors of domestic violence.
Pastor Cat’s commitment to community service and building friendship across differences make her a great fit for Lee Church. Lee Church has a long history of serving the community through the Wilkinson Food Pantry, Youth Mission Trips, Community Assistance Fund, and a meeting place for local community groups.
Pastor Cat is looking forward to investing her passion for partnering with others in building beloved community with the town of Lee and beyond. Beloved community is a term popularized by the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and envisions a world without poverty, hunger, homelessness, and hate. She completed a Spiritual Direction Practicum through Still Harbor in 2022 and also looks forward to accompanying others who may be seeking a compassionate presence to listen with them for the Spirit’s movement in their lives.
She has a joyful spirit and delights in the communal spiritual practices of worship and dialogue. Join her and us on Sunday mornings at 9:30am!
