Pastor's Notes (March 2011)

Dearest Friends in Christ,

As spring approaches, but doesn’t seem in any great hurry to arrive, I find myself in the middle of plans for my sabbatical leave. This will begin on Monday, June 13th, and I will return to work on Monday, September 12th. Looking back on five busy years as your pastor, I find myself ready to refresh and renew my spirit. I am planning on taking a course at Andover Newton Theological School – an on-line program that begins in June – as well as some retreat time at Mount Desert Island in Maine. Plans are underway, but not finalized, for the pastor who will share those three months with you. I expect that it will be a fulfilling time for you, as I pray that it will be for me.

My intention for my sabbatical time, in addition to filling up my spiritual well, is to gain some skills and knowledge for what the next years will bring to us as a community of faith. Already conversation has begun about reviewing the By-Laws and looking at our current organizational structure. It may well be that modifications to our structure are in order, although that is a decision that should not be rushed. As we move into that process, I want to be as informed as possible about what options are available and appropriate for this community, in order to be able to provide guidance where needed. We will certainly make these decisions as a congregation, but knowing that many of you look to me for advice, I want that advice to be sound…and wise.

I would invite your prayers for me during my time away – I will certainly be praying for all of you. And I am confident that this will be a rich time for us all.
