Pastor's Notes (June-July 2010)

Dearest friends in Christ,

I am sitting here in the afterglow of a truly amazing and Spirit-filled Pentecost celebration. In particular, the efforts of the Confirmation class, Carlee Beck, Trisha Boucher, and Sam Lewis, as well as their mentors, Gloria Quigley, Hillary Myers, and Howie Hoff, were really wonderful. They created a meaningful and exuberant service of celebration, as they talked about what their faith means to them, and witnessed that God’s Holy Spirit is truly alive and active in this community of faith. This fills me with so much joy, as well as gratitude, at what God continues to create within and among us.

There is nothing so humbling, in my experience, than to witness new generations of believers discovering their faith journey. In the life of this church, parents and teachers alike are sharing what they believe with our youth – and it is taking root and thriving. These next generations represent the future of the church – yes – but even more importantly, they represent our present. That is why it is so vital that we are consistent, energetic, and dedicated to sharing our faith stories and inviting them to be a part of the journey with us. They may have as much to teach us as we hope to teach them.

On June 13th, as a church community we will celebrate Christian Education Sunday. Please plan to bring your children, so that we can rejoice together during the service that they have created. Please plan to attend and support all of our students and teachers, as they lead us in worship and inspire us to be more faithful “Followers of Jesus.” Come because you can, and come because you must, as it is God who issues the invitation, asking us to be one Body of Christ in worship and in praise.
