Dearest Friends in Christ,

Recently I have begun teaching the “God and Me” and “God and Family” scouting programs. Both of these programs help young scouts understand their relationships with God. We have been discussing the great love that God has for each of us as God’s beloved children, and learning about how our birth family and the family of faithful Christians provide a solid foundation upon which our lives of discipleship are built. It is wonderful for me to witness the enthusiasm and blossoming faith of these youngsters, and to share in these early beginnings of their faith journeys.

Periodically, it is truly helpful for all of us to take a moment to ponder the very foundation of our faith and to give thanks for the individual(s) who introduced us to Jesus. For it is our steadfast belief in him as Son of God which is the bedrock of our faith. Knowing him as Savior and Messiah gives us the greatest hope, and serving in his name provides abundant joy. To be his disciple is to know a life that is exciting and challenging, and a life that has meaning and purpose. There is no greater calling; no more blessed gift than the gift of God With Us, Immanuel. As the season of Epiphany leads us into the season of Lent, we praise God for the gift of the Son, given to us.
