Dearest Friends in Christ,

The glory of spring is upon us at last.  After the many months of cold and snow, the promise of new life is budding around us – new leaves, new grass, bedding plants poking up through the last remnants of the fall foliage – and we feel our spirits lift.  It is the wonder of Easter Resurrection, yet ever new each year. The hope that refuses to die, but which leads us forward into each new day and the joy that the present and the future hold.  We are so blessed!  God is great – all the time; and all the time – God is great!

May will be a different month this year, with the absence of the plant sale and all its accompanying activity.  But the hope is for new fund raising and community building activities to bubble up.  I have been thinking about holding “Ice Cream Sundays” during the summer months on Sunday afternoons from 12-4.  We would keep it simple with a basic selection of flavors and perhaps start off with cones, dishes and sundaes. I think it could be a lot of fun, reasonably sticky and introduce new folks to how wonderful we are.  If you would like to help with this endeavor, please let me know.

I am also beginning to explore ideas for an alternate worship experience on one Sunday each month during the summer.  It would be a more casual experience and we would meet in Fellowship Hall, around coffee and muffins.  This would be meaningful worship, with prayer and music, and would also include some interactive, intergenerational pieces.  The model for this comes from England and one of my colleagues introduced it to me.  I am very excited to see how we can make this our own, and welcome folks to help me with the planning.
