January 2013

Dearest Friends in Christ,

In the afterglow of Christmas, we return to the more humdrum work of the church – budgets, planning, meetings.  It is easy to think of January as the new year; the same old work.  But each and every day, God is calling us to new adventures in service.  With the turning of the calendar, even on a daily basis, there are fresh opportunities to discover, or rediscover, the wonders and miracles of life that surround us.

When it comes to sharing the Good News, as disciples and witnesses to the power of the Word, we are invited to bring the message of Christ to others.  This might be as an invitation to worship, but it could also be as simple as being an example of how people of faith live in relationship with one another.  Nothing is more powerful than faith in action.

Have you made your resolutions yet?  Of course you have, and I have as well.  However, after the resolutions to diet and exercise more, perhaps we could think about a resolution about our faith life.  I invite you to consider joining Bible study this year, or volunteering to read Scripture in worship, or teach Sunday School, or visit those who are confined to home.  Now those would be resolutions to keep.
