Help Wanted: Director Of Youth Ministries

PURPOSE OF POSITION: To provide overall leadership in Christian Education (CE) Ministry, with a specific focus on leadership and development of youth groups and programs, including guidance and resources. To maintain and enhance the Christian Education program for the Lee Church Congregational Community and to support the CE Ministry in attaining the goals of Christian education for pre-kindergarten through senior high school youth. The person in this position should be actively supportive and sensitive to the whole mission of this church and guided by his/her own Christian faith. Critical Outcomes: To be successful in this position, you must: 1. Provide leadership and direct, guide and assist with the youth group program for middle school and high school youth, including service to the community, social activities, discussion groups and service to the church. 2. In collaboration with the Coordinator of Christian Formation, establish program goals, lead the coordination of planning, staffing, promotion and implementation of the program; oversee selection of curriculum; communicate plans to teachers; provide resources & supplies for teaching activities, oversee recruitment, training and support of teachers and nursery care givers; communicate and promote awareness of Christian Education activities to the congregation and the wider community. 3. Be physically present on Sunday mornings to oversee Sunday school, record attendance, collect offering and offer support as needed. 4. Provide report to the Coordinator of Christian Formation monthly regarding SS progress, and annually for reporting purposes to the Lee Church 5. Create and maintain the Sunday School annual schedule and monthly calendar and share that information with the Church Administrative Assistant to be added to the church’s annual planning calendar. 6. Participate in worship planning sessions with pastor and worship team. Hold office hours weekly to increase communication with SS parents and youth. TIME REQUIREMENTS: 15 HOURS PER WEEK Supervised by: the Coordinator of Christian Formation Responsible to: the Coordinator of Christian Formation and the pastor Qualifications: Professional: Commitment to the Christian Faith, ability to work with people and concern with their growth as persons and as disciples of Jesus Christ, ability to be flexible and creative in planning and programming, ability to work well with young people, parents and other workers, familiarity with basic biblical knowledge, basic Christian beliefs and church life, have a positive perspective and enthusiasm for Christian teaching and have the ability to channel children’s interests and energy. Education and Training: Academic training in education and/or theology preferred, or equivalent through conferences, workshops, etc. Experience: Experience in a church in either volunteer or professional positions and/or experience in teaching, administration and supervision. Candidates must be willing to submit to a background check.
