November 2012

The Diaconate held its monthly meeting on Monday, Oct 8 with a quorum present.  Following the administrative items, Pastor Gail presented her report.  Some topics included:  Bible Sunday (Oct 21), 2012-13 confirmation class (beginning Oct 21 and continuing through May of next year, Seder meal sponsored by CE (tentatively planned for Oct 27), and parishioners & friends needing outreach and prayers.

The Wilkinson Food Pantry served 20 families representing 50 individuals in September.  We are also scheduled to receive a food delivery from USDA on Oct 12.  The pantry continues to be open the first and third Monday of each month from 6:00 - 7:00 PM.  There may be a slight variation to this schedule during the holidays but if this is the case, new times or closings will be posted well in advance.

Two initiatives have been taken.  First, we are starting a Women’s Fellowship Group.  It is envisioned that this group will meet in the evenings on the first Tuesday of each month at 7 o’clock.  A second initiative is a prayer team or chain which is in the process of being established.  There will be more information about this later so please stay tuned.

The Diaconate will soon complete our annual membership review, as required by the church by-laws.  Additionally, we have formed a three person sub-committee to formulate our proposed budget for 2013 which will be presented to the Trustees as part of their overall budget process.

The Diaconate is responsible for overseeing the annual Holiday Basket Project.  The committee is in place and the kickoff meeting is scheduled for Sunday, Oct 21 between services.  Holiday baskets will again be provided to needy families in the area at both Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Specific pack & distribution dates, as well as other scheduled events, will be distributed at the kickoff meeting.  We were pleased to learn that the Cub Scout pack, sponsored by the church, has volunteered to help us set up on Monday evening, Nov 19 for pack & distribution the next day for Thanksgiving.

Pastor Gail and the Diaconate will again this year educate the fifth grade Sunday school students in communion preparation procedures.  This will take place on Saturday, Nov 3 for communion the following morning in the sanctuary.  Two students will assist Pastor Gail and a Diaconate member in serving communion to the parishioners that morning.  Nov 4 will also mark All Saints Sunday.

All active duty and retired military personnel as well as anyone who has served in the armed forces are encouraged to wear their uniforms on Sunday, Nov 11 in observance of Veterans Day.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the worship services or if we can be of any help to you, please feel free to contact any member of the Diaconate.
