Proverbs 17:17---“A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.”

Dear friends and members of Lee Church Congregational UCC:

As the summer season draws to a close and we prepare for the coming months of autumn, let us prepare ourselves spiritually to rekindle the love and friendship we share as a faith community. There has been much discussion during recent monthly meetings of the Diaconate and other church groups as we prepare for Rally Day, Sept. 12, and the call to discipleship for many of you. Prayerfully consider your gift(s) to the Church, and how best you can provide time to discipleship and serving on our various committees. The needs are many, but the work is light when we all can pitch in together!! Also be aware that the Diaconate will be leading an effort to encourage those who have been away from the Church for some time, for various reasons, to once again return. During “Reuniting Sunday”, on Sept. 26th, we are asking that all of you please seek new friends/members and encourage current friends/members to join us in a reunion celebration of sorts that day. How wonderful would it be to see a large group of new and familiar faces joining us in worship? Pastor Gail will have returned from a well-deserved hiatus by then, so we can all look forward to her inspirational message as part of the celebration.

In other news the Diaconate continues to seek new and creative ways to provide service to the Lee community through the Wilkinson Food Pantry. Several members of the Diaconate and the Pantry spent time recently visiting neighboring food pantries to gather information. One idea that is likely to be implemented soon is to obtain non-perishable commodity items through the USDA food program. These items are provided at no-charge and will allow us to concentrate more narrowly on other items of need through community donations. In the short term, please continue to provide items to the Wilkinson Food Pantry as you are able. Items of particular need are listed in Pastor Gail’s Weekly Update, The Open Door, as well as in our Sunday Bulletins. In general, however, paper products and personal care items are always needed and welcome.

Yours in faith from the Diaconate,

Mauret Brinser and Dave Townson
