Diaconate Notes (October 2010)

posted Dec 18, 2014, 1:18 PM by Henry McTague

It is so hard to believe that the glorious summer of 2010 is behind us and we are now officially in the fall season. Children are back to school, family vacations are over and the Diaconate at Lee Church Congregational is hard at work to create a new program called, Welcoming Church.

As we continue to build our congregation, we understand that we have to look at how we welcome visitors as essential to this building process. Those of us that have been attending Lee Church Congregational have developed strong relationships with one another. But, how does it feel to be a stranger walking into the sanctuary for the very first time? Since this initial impression is so critical, we are working to make sure that anyone and everyone that walks through the doors of our church feel comfortable and welcome.

Nancy MacLean has generously offered to take the lead and work directly with Pastor Gail in the development of a Welcoming Church. Nancy and Gail will be creating strategies for the Diaconate to use in reaching out to new visitors, welcoming them to our congregation and identifying how we can best meet their needs as they consider membership with Lee Church Congregational.

As mentioned in the September issue of the Open Door, one strategy that has already been put in place is Re-Uniting Sunday, which was scheduled on September 26. Re-Uniting Sunday was our way of welcoming those individuals and families that were once regular attendees of the church back to our congregation. Although, it is too early to share with all of you the success of this event, I hope that we see some of those familiar faces back on a regular basis.

If anyone has any questions or suggestions regarding our Welcoming Church program, please feel free to reach out to one of the Diaconate Members.

With Blessings,

Mauret Brinser and Dave Townson
