Diaconate Notes (January 2010)

posted Dec 18, 2014, 1:15 PM by Henry McTague

We have come full circle, hung the new calendar and are facing 2010 with hopeful anticipation. The New Year is a chance at new beginnings and to live up to our newly made resolutions. It is also a time to reflect upon the year that has just closed and to evaluate our response to all that was asked of us.

As co-chairs for the Diaconate, we find that this last year has been one that has been both challenging and extremely fulfilling. It has truly been our pleasure to work with the other members of the Diaconate to support Pastor Gail and the members and friends of Lee Church. Serving together has been a wonderful way to get to know one another and sense the joy of service. We have found that your response to our pleas for help with the Wilkinson Food Pantry, reading, greeting, visitations, calls and notes to those in need to be overwhelmingly generous. We want to thank our fellow deacons: Octavia Gooch, Dave Townson, Mauret Brinser, Rick Smith, Hank McTague, Jim Myers, Kristi Atherton, Nancy MacLean, Inez Bromage as well as Joe Quimby who had to resign due to moving in August. We’d also like to thank those who have worked on the Diaconate sub committees: Christine Burke and Debbie Poulin on the Flower Committee, Mauret Brinser and Meda Durepo as Wedding coordinators, Helen Wilcox, Barbara Hartwell and Henry Brackett overseeing the Wilkinson Food Pantry and everyone who has worked to make our Holiday Basket program so successful. It is now time for us, along with Inez to step down. February will bring four new members to the Diaconate and we hope that their term will be as fulfilling as ours has been. And, we would sincerely urge anyone who is asked to serve to say “YES”! We have served on many committees over the years, and can honestly say that our time spent on Diaconate has brought the humbling sense of truly serving.

We leave you with this prayer taken from the “New Year Sermon” by Wayne Dobratz:

“Take time to work – it is the price of success.
Take time to think – it is the source of power.
Take time to read – it is the fountain of wisdom.
Take time to worship – it is the highway to reverence.
Take time to be friendly – it is the road to happiness.
Take time to laugh – it helps to lift life’s load.
Take time for God’s Word – it brings Christ near and
It washes the dust of earth from your eyes.
Take time for God – it is life’s only truly lasting investment.
In Jesus’ name, Amen. “ (*)

Wishing you a new year of fulfillment in the joy of serving –
