Diaconate (May 2011)

posted Dec 18, 2014, 1:21 PM by Henry McTague
The Diaconate held its monthly meeting on Monday, April 11, 2011. Following an opening prayer by Pastor Gail and completing several administrative items, we focused our attention on pastoral supply for Pastor Gail’s sabbatical leave. Following this, plans were made for Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, and Easter worship services.

We have commitments from three different pastors for the summer months. Rev. Larry Brickner-Wood is scheduled to preach on June 19, 26, July 3, 10, and 17. Rev. Debra Moore from Wolfeboro will be with us on July 24 and September 11. She will possibly be here on July 31 as well depending on the time of a prior commitment (still unknown as of this writing). Rev. Brendon Bass will return to us on August 7, 14, 21, and 28. September 4 is uncertain at this time but will likely be either Rev. Brickner-Wood or Rev. Moore depending on their personal schedules. Please stay tuned. The Diaconate will be assuming some additional responsibilities during this time which we discussed at our April meeting and will finalize at our next meeting on May 9.

Plans were made for Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, and Easter (April 17, 21, and 24 respectively). There will be a Maundy Thursday meal in Fellowship Hall consisting of bread and soup beginning at 6:00 PM. Communion will also be celebrated at that time. All are cordially invited to attend. The worship service will follow in Fellowship Hall beginning at 7:30. Easter sunrise service begins on Bradbury Hill at 5:45 AM followed by a breakfast in Fellowship Hall sponsored by the Men’s Breakfast team. We are very grateful to them for “stepping up” to prepare and serve this breakfast. Easter services in the sanctuary are at 9:00 and 10:30.

The Wilkinson Pantry continues to be open the first and third Monday of each month from 6:00- 7:00 PM. We are serving many more families these days than we have in the past and we sincerely appreciate your donations. Items particularly needed are published in the bulletin every Sunday. Thank you in advance for supporting this ministry.

We continue to assist Pastor Gail with bringing communion to those who are either unable to attend worship services or find it difficult to do so. In addition to our own parishioners, a communion worship service is given at Kirkwood Corners and The Pines once each month (second Tuesday and Thursday respectively). We have placed a guest book in the back of the sanctuary for visitors to sign. This will help us, as well as Pastor Gail, to identify, acknowledge, and contact visitors who may also be interested in becoming part of our church family.

Our retreat on March 5 emphasized our mission and how we fit into the Lee Church Congregational mission statement as well as roles, responsibilities, & goals rather than “nuts & bolts” administrative items. We also did some reflecting, read devotionals, and reviewed our current Diaconate covenant.

We will be making every effort to assist Pastor Gail during the year in nurturing the physical and spiritual needs of the church and the community. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the worship services or if we can be of any help to you, please feel free to contact any member of the Diaconate.
