Diaconate (March 2011)

posted Dec 18, 2014, 1:20 PM by Henry McTague
The Diaconate began its 2011 year with a potluck supper on February 14 in Fellowship Hall. In keeping with the custom of previous years, all new board members and their families were invited and welcomed. These include Inez Bromage, Brian Burke, Dawn Genes, and Barbara Hartwell. Those leaving the board were Kristi Atherton, Octavia Gooch, Nancy MacLean, Hank McTague, and Jim Myers. Their service to the church and to the Diaconate was and continues to be sincerely appreciated. Board members were nominated and elected to serve during 2011 as follows:

Rod MacKay Co-Chair

Katrina Rhodes Co-Chair

Dave Townson Treasurer

Mauret Brinser Secretary

Positions were also filled for Worship Leader; Acolyte Training Coordinator; Congregational Care Committee; and Wilkinson Pantry Liaison.

Also in keeping with the custom of previous years, the Diaconate planned its annual retreat for Saturday, March 5 from 9:00 - 12:00 noon in the Chapman Library. We will focus on our mission and how we fit into the Lee Church Congregational mission statement; our roles, responsibilities, and goals; and challenges & opportunities rather than “nuts & bolts” administrative agenda items. We will also be reviewing the Diaconate Covenant which we formulated at last year’s retreat.

The Diaconate will be assisting Pastor Gail during the Ash Wednesday service on March 9 at 7:00 PM. We also continue to assist her monthly with communion services at both Kirkwood Corners and The Pines.

Following the lead of the Trustees, we will be sponsoring a New England boiled dinner of corn beef & cabbage with all the “fixings” on Saturday, March 19. Although several Diaconate members will be participating in the church supper, we hope that many other parishioners will also sign up to help. There are several jobs available which are posted just outside the entrance to the kitchen in Fellowship Hall. Thank you in advance.

Pastor Gail is planning a sabbatical from June 13 through September 12, 2011; accordingly, the Diaconate is searching for a supply pastor to serve during this time. We have a few leads and hope to have one in place soon. We will, of course, do everything that we can to support whoever fills this role. We are also identifying any tasks that we may be required to perform during Gail’s absence.

The Diaconate will be making every effort to assist Pastor Gail during the year in nurturing the physical and spiritual needs of the church and the community. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the worship services or if we can be of any help to you, please feel free to contact any member of the Diaconate.
