Diaconate (June / July 2011)

posted Dec 18, 2014, 1:21 PM by Henry McTague
The Diaconate held its monthly meeting on Monday, May 9, 2011. Following an opening prayer by Pastor Gail and completing several administrative items, we focused our attention on final plans for Pastor Gail’s sabbatical leave as this was her last meeting with us before her leave begins on June 13.

We have final commitments from four different pastors for the summer months. Rev. Larry Brickner-Wood is scheduled to preach on June 19, 26, July 3, 10, 17, and September 4. Debra Moore, Commissioned Minister of Christian Nurture , from Wolfeboro will be with us on July 24 and September 11. Rev. Roger Burkhart from Milton will be here on July 31 when there will be a baptism for Donald Rich IV. Rev. Brendon Bass will return to us on August 7, 14, 21, and 28.

The Diaconate will be assuming some additional responsibilities during this time including making arrangements for all congregational care which may be needed. Please contact either Sally Cedarholm in the church office (659-2861), Rod MacKay (659-5063), or Katrina Rhodes (868-1514) should you need congregational care such as visitations, errands, rides, etc and we will be happy to make them available for you. Pastor Gail has also provided resources for us to use should pastoral care be needed so please let us know if that is the case.

The ushers will be recording all of the prayer concerns and celebrations during Pastor Gail’s sabbatical leave and providing them to Sally that afternoon or the following morning for the “Weekly Update.” These are sometimes difficult to hear, especially as we are not facing the congregation, so speaking as clearly as possible would be very helpful to us to assure that we record your prayer concerns and celebrations accurately. Thank you in advance from all of us.

The Wilkinson Pantry continues to be open the first and third Monday of each month from 6:00- 7:00 PM. We are serving many more families these days than we have in the past and we sincerely appreciate your donations. Items particularly needed are published in the bulletin every Sunday. Thank you in advance for supporting this ministry.

We continue to assist Pastor Gail with bringing communion to those who are either unable to attend worship services or find it difficult to do so. In addition to our own parishioners, a communion worship service is given at Kirkwood Corners and The Pines once each month (second Tuesday and Thursday respectively). These services will be suspended during the summer but will resume at Kirkwood on October 11 and the Pines on October 13.

A membership review, as required by our church by-laws, was completed on May 12. Administrative items in progress include Pastor Gail’s annual review to be completed prior to her sabbatical and a review of our policies and procedures to be completed by our monthly meeting on June 13. New hymn numbers were ordered for the hymn board above the choir loft and were used for the first time at the 10:30 worship service on May 22.

The Diaconate wishes Pastor Gail a refreshing three months of sabbatical leave and looks forward to her return on September 12. We will be making every effort to assist her in nurturing the physical and spiritual needs of the church and the community. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the worship services or if we can be of any help to you, please feel free to contact any member of the Diaconate.
