Diaconate (Aug 2011)

posted Dec 18, 2014, 1:22 PM by Henry McTague
The Diaconate held its monthly meeting on Monday, July 11, 2011. Following our opening prayer and completing several administrative items, we continued to focus our attention on our responsibilities during Pastor Gail’s sabbatical leave.

As of this writing, Rev. Larry Brickner-Wood has completed his first five Sundays supplying for us. We celebrated and thanked him during the July 17 worship service and we are looking forward to his return to the pulpit on September 4 and 11. Debra Moore, Commissioned Minister of Christian Nurture within the UCC, will be with us on July 24. She has most recently served the First Congregational Church of Wolfeboro, UCC and has just accepted a call to serve Edwards Church of Northampton, MA as their Minister of Christian Education. Rev. Roger Burkhart from Milton will be here on July 31 when there will be a baptism for Donald Rich IV. Rev. Brendon Bass will return to us during all four Sundays in August.

The Diaconate will be making arrangements for all congregational care which may be needed during Pastor Gail’s sabbatical leave. Please contact either Sally Cedarholm in the church office (659-2861), Rod MacKay (659-5063), or Katrina Rhodes (868-1514) should you need congregational care such as visitations, errands, rides, etc and we will be happy to make them available for you. Pastor Gail has also provided resources for us to use should pastoral care be needed so please let us know if that is the case.

The ushers continue to record all of the prayer concerns and celebrations during the worship services and provide them to Sally that afternoon or the following morning for the “Weekly Update.” These are sometimes difficult to hear, especially as we are not facing the congregation, so speaking as clearly as possible would be very helpful to us to assure that we record your prayer concerns and celebrations accurately. Thank you in advance from all of us.

The Wilkinson Food Pantry continues to be open the first and third Monday of each month from 6:00- 7:00 PM. We are serving many more families these days than we have in the past and we sincerely appreciate your donations. Barbara Hartwell, our Wilkinson Food Pantry Coordinator, reported that 22 families were served in June representing 52 individuals. We were very grateful to receive two separate food donations in June and July from UNH. Items particularly needed are published in the bulletin every Sunday. Thank you in advance for supporting this ministry.

We have reviewed our Policies and Procedures and have submitted our recommended additions/deletions/changes to Sally for incorporation. Also, the Diaconate will be one of five committees helping to plan Rally Day which is scheduled for September 18. Christian Education has assumed the lead for organizing this event with the other committees being Trustees, Missions, and Music. This date coincides with the first Sunday that we return to two services as well as Pastor Gail’s return to the pulpit. Stay tuned and look for much more about this exciting day from Christian Education in the weeks ahead.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the worship services or if we can be of any help to you, please feel free to contact any member of the Diaconate.
