February 2015

February brings us another step deeper into winter and reminds us to tell those around us how much we love them with Valentine's Day gifts and greetings. This year while our youngest kids dig into their craft bins for all shades of red and pink to create special crafts to send out on the 14th, my family has decided to reach out to our community in a different way this month. Beyond the chocolate and red hearts of this holiday, we are going to focus our attention on doing small good deeds for others throughout February. During the days we look for ways to allow people ahead of us in line, hold the door for others, offer an extra compliment, or show appreciation to those who are often overlooked and then share our experiences as a family at the end of the day.  We find these to be simple ways for us to share God's love with those around us and it helps us to recognize the value of our small efforts can bring to others.

You will also notice in our Youth Group calendar that we are meeting regularly, growing with each event, and are now ramping up our fundraising efforts more and more.  Please keep an eye out for you how can get involved with this incredible group of kids.  They have so much to offer our surrounding community as they continue to strengthen their faith and their friendships. They are learning what it means to be members of a caring faith community and are truly grateful for all the support our church is providing them.

To further extend this sense of community to our younger families, we are beginning a Family Fun program.  I have asked Krista Butts to help coordinate a Family Fun event once a month for our church families.  Some of these events will take place at Lee Church, like game nights, ice cream socials, and craft events. Other months we will take a field trip to local attractions for an afternoon or evening.  While these activities will be kid-centered, kids of all ages are welcome to attend. We just want to schedule some fun time together and we encourage you to invite friends and family who may not be church members to join us.  If you have any event ideas or want to help Krista more actively with this new program, please contact Krista, Jill, or a CE member for more information.  Keep an eye out for our first event coming soon!

May your February be filled with bright, snowy days, cozy nights, and many chances to share the love of God with those around you!

Happy Valentine's Day!
