Christian Ed Notes (March 2010)

As I write my article, it is hard to believe that this week begins the Lenten season with Ash Wednesday. It is a time of reflections. For many people, it is a time to give something up. Pastor Gail had a wonderful comment during Confirmation class in that instead of giving something up. Let us consider doing something different that will challenge each of us. With a few peers at work, we are taking some time during our lunch each week to volunteer at a local nursing home and give to others. In our own community, there is an opportunity to assist the family with the four newborns. It may be hard to find the time, but it is doing something for someone else. What could you do to challenge yourself?

Lenten Mission Project: During Lent, the Sunday school children and Christian Youth Fellowship Group (CYF) will be collecting items to send care packages to soldiers overseas. One particular item that they need is flytraps. Please see the CE board for collection items to assist the youth in this very important mission project. The collection will culminate at the CE/Mission red, white and blue pot luck dinner on March 27th. Please plan to join us for a fun evening of fellowship.

In addition, the youth will be participating in the OGHS with the Mission committee. Bank cubes and calendars will be distributed to the Sunday school children.

Confirmation: Confirmation class will be assisting with spring food baskets for their mission project. This is an activity that we have done for the past 2 years and has been well received by those in need.

CYF: The CYF group met on January 31st to revise our calendar for the remainder of the year. The updated calendar will be posted on the CE bulletin board and available on the church website. If you have Facebook, there is a Lee Church Congregational Youth Group page that includes all the upcoming events for the CYF and Mission trip youth group functions. CYF is open to all youth 6th-12th grades. Please join us and bring a friend.

Maple Sugaring: Join us on March 6th at 12:45 PM to go to the Atherton Farm on Lee Hook Road for Maple sugaring. Dress warmly and in clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty. This will be a fun event. The Atherton’s make wonderful Maple Sugar.

Rock Climbing: On March 21st, we are planning to go Indoor Rock Climbing. Look for more information in the bulletin, on the CE bulletin board and website.

Any questions regarding Christian Education programs, please contact one of the CE board members or myself.

In God’s Love,

Sheila
