Christian Ed Notes (January 2010)

posted Dec 18, 2014, 2:35 PM by Henry McTague

It is hard to believe that another year has passed. It seems like we just began 2009 and it is already 2010. The New Year brings new hope and memories of the year past. Take time to think back on the past year and enjoy your special memories.  Happy New Year!!!

Living Nativity: Due to the snowstorm, Living Nativity had to be cancelled this year.  Given the internet weather forecasts at 10 AM, it seemed like the best decision.  Although it is disappointing to cancel the event, CE committee and I felt it is better to have everyone safe in their homes.  Hopefully, you were able to spend the time with family. I enjoyed the afternoon preparing for Christmas.

Thank you to all the wonderful volunteers who had been preparing for the event especially to Brenda Brady-Porter for taking care of the costumes, Howie Hoff for the lighting, youth group (CYF) for putting up the Crèche and Barbara Mariacher for organizing the animals. Our baby Jesus was to be Riley Dionne. Hopefully, the weather will not impact the event next year.  The youth leaders have some ideas for a project which will help if Mother Nature decides to give us bad weather on the living Nativity date again.

Confirmation: Confirmation classes will begin on January 10th and the group will be dedicated during morning worship. Carlee Beck, Trisha Boucher and Sam Lewis will be participating in the program this year.  Their mentors are Gloria Quigley, Hillary Myers and Howie Hoff respectively. The group will be meeting every other week after the second service. Keep them in your thoughts and prayers as they commit to this 5 month faith journey. It is a wonderful experience and I look forward to the class. Confirmation will be held on May 23rd.

CYF: The youth group or new name Christian Fellowship Group (CYF) will have their next meeting on January 3rd from 4 to 6:30 PM to celebrate their Christmas party, which was postponed on December 20th due to the snowstorm. Both groups will be meeting together. Please bring a printed copy of the lyrics and the music to your favorite song for discussion. Remember your $10 swap gift. Take a look at the youth group bulletin board for additional information. New members are always welcome to this group. Please join us.

On January 9 from 8:30 am to 1 pm the CYF will collect discarded Christmas trees for a donation of $5. To have your tree included in the collection register with Christine at christineburke@metrocast.net or by calling 856-5838 or the Church office by 5 pm on January 8. (Snow date January 10 beginning at noon).

Youth Mission Trip: The youth will be going on a Mission trip in July 2010 and they have begun fundraising to assist with the cost of attending. This is a very rewarding trip for all the youth and adults who attend. Thank you for your continued support of this church mission outreach.  During January they will be taking orders for sub sandwiches for Super Bowl Sunday.  If you have any questions, please see Judy Belanger or Meg Reed.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding CE, please let me know.

Blessings,

Sheila Bennion
