Christian Ed Notes (December 2009)

posted Dec 18, 2014, 2:34 PM by Henry McTague

Advent is one of my favorite seasons in the church. It is the time of preparation and anticipation for the birth of Jesus. As you prepare for Christmas, take time to pause and reflect on the real meaning of Christmas. My most treasured memories of Christmas are the time spent with family and friends. One special memory is my dad making homemade rolls and bread for the holidays. When my sons were little, he would always make sure a batch of rolls just came out of the oven as the boys walked through the door from school.  The smells and taste of those rolls are one of my favorite memories of Christmas and my dad. What is your favorite Christmas memory?

Advent: Plans for Advent season are already in process. As I write this article, the final preparations have been made by the CE committee and Diaconate for our annual “Hanging of the Greens” on November 22nd. We are excited to enjoy the fellowship and fun with our church family.

Confirmation: We held an informational meeting for Confirmation on November 15th and will hold a mentor meeting on December 13th. All young adults 8th grade or older are invited to participate in Confirmation. The program begins on January 10th. Any questions please see Pastor Gail or me.

Living Nativity: The Living Nativity will be on December 20th at 4:30 PM. The middle school lead parts will be chosen on December 13th. The high school class will narrate.  Practice is on December 20th during the 8:30 AM service. We will start in church and then go outside. Please make sure that your children are dressed appropriately and warmly to be outside. The younger children will be an angels, townspeople or shepherds. The younger children will choose their role on the morning of the 20th.  Costumes will be assigned during the practice and need to arrive early to put their costumes on for the afternoon presentation. All children are invited to participate. Please plan to join us on December 20th and bring your friends. It is a wonderful opportunity to experience the true meaning of Christmas.

Christmas Weekend: On December 27th, there will be only one service and no Sunday school. There will have a fun craft and movie for children to participate. Please join us for a fun time.

In God’s love,
