August is upon us. It seems like yesterday was children’s Sunday and summer had just begun. I hope that you are all enjoying your summer vacation and spending time with family and friends. Whatever you are doing, take some time to enjoy the beauty of the season.

During the second week of July, Janet Lottmann and her team of adults supervised another successful Vacation Bible school. They spent a fabulous week singing, hearing bibles stories, making crafts and eating great snacks. Many thanks to Janet Lottman, VBS Director, and her team of volunteers their wonderful work in making VBS such a success.

Be sure to mark you calendars for Lee fair on the September 10th. . There will be plenty of activities to enjoy. I am looking forward to hearing all about your exciting day.

Sunday, September 18th is Rally Day and the beginning of our new church school year and a return to two services on Sunday mornings, at 8:30 AM and 10:30 AM. We are excited to begin the new school year growing and learning together. The CE committee has decided to eliminate the 9th-12th grade class due to lack of attendance. Instead, we are offering opportunities for children in 9th-12th grades to join the senior choir, Praise team, assist with Sunday school class, work in the nursery etc.

Sunday school is held every Sunday of the month. Children should attend the church service in the Sanctuary leaving with their teachers after Children’s time with the exceptions below.

On the 1st Sunday of the month, children in 3rd-8th grades will start in their classrooms and go into church for Communion. All other children will start in the Sanctuary.

There are 4 Sundays when there will be no Sunday school, December 25th, January 1st, April 8th and May 27th.

Sunday school registration forms are available, so that you may register your child early for Sunday school. It is critical that a registration form is completed on the first Sunday if not earlier. Sunday school is for children age four through eighth grade. If you child turns four during the school year, they can be transitioned to Sunday school at that time. They do not need to wait until next year to join the program.

We still need a second teacher for the first service 3rd-5th grade class. It is a great opportunity to work with the youth. No previous teaching experience needed. Please let me know if you are interested.

Secret Pals will be revealed between services on September 18th. As we mingle for fellowship time after the first service, the children will find out the identity of their secret pal. I am looking forward to hearing what you have learned about your secret pal from their postcards/letters. It is always exciting to learn the identity of your secret pal. Remember that the children can send a letter or postcard to their secret pal by leaving the self-stamped letter/postcard in the church office. Please make sure that we can identify the child so that we can send the letter/postcard to the correct address.

I am excited to start another Sunday school year. I look forwarded to seeing you all at the Lee Fair on September 10th and then Sunday school on September 18th.

In God’s love,

Sheila Bennion

Christian Education Director
